every word you write is the work. our job is to notice when a sentence is already right and get out of its way. we do not 'generate' your novel. we read it.

an open letter to anyone still writing.
the blank page is the oldest, best machine we have for thinking. it doesn't need rescuing. it doesn't need finishing. it needs a little help, and a lot of patience, and someone who will not get bored of your book on the third revision.
quarkle is that. not a rewrite machine. not a word-count gamifier. a small, considered companion, built by writers, for writers. it reads every chapter before giving a note. it remembers the name of your dog-character. it does not flinch at a first draft. it will not suggest you have your protagonist "pivot to a tech startup."

eleven things we will not do.
II.
suggest, don't replace.
every change is a proposal. you accept, you decline, you keep your own line. nothing we suggest is committed to your document without a keystroke.
III.
remember everything.
we keep the color of the villain's coat, the name of the dog, the promise made in chapter one. not because it's impressive — because it is the minimum thing a reader can do.
IV.
the voice is yours. always.
we are not tuned to make you sound clever, or viral, or literary in a way you aren't. we are tuned to sound like you on your best day.
V.
verbose is not better.
the tightest line wins. when we suggest an edit, we're usually removing two sentences to make one land. specificity over adjectives. image over adverb.
VI.
read before you speak.
we read the whole chapter before we give a note. sixteen specialist editors, then a senior editor to calm the crowd. never one suspiciously confident paragraph.
VII.
your words are yours.
we don't train on your book. we don't sell the patterns. we don't feed your draft to a model you didn't invite. if you leave, you leave with everything.
VIII.
be kind. be useful.
never shame. never scold. never say 'this is weak' when what you mean is 'this will work with one change.' softness is a technical requirement, not a style choice.
IX.
no infinite loops.
we finish the note. we don't keep you 'engaged.' we'd rather you write for two uninterrupted hours than open the app nine times in a morning.
X.
the blank page is not a bug.
it's the feature. we will not auto-complete the first line of your chapter. we will sit with you, warm, quiet, and waiting. showing up is the whole thing.
XI.
we are here tomorrow.
software disappears. we plan not to. if you wrote here in 2026 we want you writing here in 2036. no sunsets without a parachute.
